PACIFICHEM to Bring 2015 Meeting to Hawai‘i Convention Center
For Immediate Release
February 8, 2012
HONOLULU, HI – The Hawai‘i Convention Center will host the seventh International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies (PACIFICHEM) in December 2015.
The meeting is the seventh in a series of PACIFICHEM congresses. PACIFICHEM has been held in Honolulu nearly every five years since its founding in 1984 with 3,871 attendees. The event was first held at the Center in December 2010, beating initial estimates with more than 12,500 attendees and a record 13,000 research papers submitted from 72 countries. The success of the 2010 event was due in part to the Center’s international marketing program, which helps associations build attendance from countries throughout the Pacific Rim.
“Hawai‘i has exceeded our expectations every year, and we are excited to bring PACIFICHEM back to Honolulu in 2015,” said Nancy Todd, CMP, manager of American Chemical Society Meetings & Expositions Attendee Services & Contracts. “We have seen continued growth at each congress, now attracting more than three times the number of attendees from our inaugural PACIFICHEM.”
Pacifichem, the largest chemical conference in the Asia-Pacific region, is sponsored jointly by the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC), the Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ), the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry (NZIC), the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), the Korean Chemical Society (KCS), and the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS).
“We are proud to once again serve as the home for these ground-breaking research discussions,” said Joe Davis, SMG general manager of the Hawai‘i Convention Center. “Hawai‘i has a strong legacy of scientific research and development, which aligns perfectly with PACIFICHEM’s mission, and our location couldn’t be better to draw participation from around the Pacific Rim.”
“We are extremely pleased that the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies has once again selected Hawai‘i for its conference, and we look forward to welcoming them back in 2015,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority. “Our strategic location in the Pacific makes Hawai‘i an ideal location to host PACIFICHEM that draws attendees throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The meetings, conventions and incentives market is important for our tourism economy, and the HTA continues to promote Hawai‘i beyond a leisure destination, and as an ideal place to conduct business.”
